Bike Day
For Bike Week 2014, the school held a bike day on Thursday 19th June. The Council’s Smarter Travel Officer, our own Johnny Brunnock, supplied balance bikes and brought the infant classes on circuits of the school yard. Middle classes with some confident infant cyclists cycled around the Community Centre Block (2 km) and Senior Classes cycled the Feddans/Clonmoyle block. Barry Meehan gave talks on bike maintenance and 260 euros was donated to Ger Kirwan (Caretaker) and Matt Greene (Parent) who are cycling from Mizen to Malin for Cancer Research. The pupils also filled out their cycle logs for the week in an attempt to accumulatively match the Mizen to Malin distance.
Thank you to the Parents, to Johnny Brunnock, Barry Meehan and the transition year students, who gave so generously of their time to make the day such a great success.

Fair Trade Status
The school was awarded Fair Trade Status recently. Many thanks to everyone for all their efforts.
We have been doing a lot of work on Fairtrade this week. We have
learned that a lot of the food we eat comes from developing countries,
for example, chocolate, bananas, tea, coffee, sugar. Fairtrade is
about ensuring that the farmers who produce these foods get a fair
price for their produce. We now know that if you see the Fairtrade
Logo on a product it means the farmer got a fair price.

Nativity
Well Done to all the pupils on their performance of Hosanna Rock. Beautiful singing and wonderful costumes made for a very special event. Thanks to Clare Quigley who put the show together.
A DVD of the Show is available to buy for 10 euros.
The pupils all enjoyed a great bounce in the Community Centre on Friday 20th, courtesy of the Parents Association. Thank you for organising First Class Castles and for helping with Supervision and providing all pupils with a selection box.
While many schools have welcomed a past pupil with the Irish Press All Ireland Minor Trophy Rathgormack National School were delighted to welcome back no fewer than 7 past pupils bearing 4 All Ireland Trophies last week. William Hahessy was on the All Ireland Minor Team, his sister Kate, the Murray Triplets, and Shauna Power were on the Under 16 Waterford All Ireland Winning Team. Beth Norris was on the U14 Waterford All Ireland Championship Winning Team and Under 14 All Ireland Blitz Winning Team. Cycle Day for Bike Week
Pupils greatly enjoyed the Bike Day held on Tuesday 25th June, it included ramps, bike limbo, obstacle course, skills, etc. “Safer Cycling” worked with 2nd to 6th Class and Waterford County Council “Smarter Travel” (Johnny Brunnock and Sarah) catered for Junior Infants to 1st Class and provided goodie bags for all pupils. Green Flag awarded for Biodiversity
Mrs Power and three members of the Green Flag Committee (Niamh Kennedy, Cora Murray and Fiona Hearne) attended the Awards Ceremony in Kilkenny on May 28th, where they picked up our new green flag for Biodiversity.
The whole school celebrated on June 12th with a hike on the Lough Mohra Loop and hot dogs (kindly sponsored by Ms. Kiely’s Summer Camp), drinks and crisps back at school. The midgets made an unwelcome appearance on the hike – that’s Biodiversity for you!
Well done to all.
40th Anniversary Celebrations – June 7th 2013.
A wonderful night was had by all.
The sixth class of 1974 re-united and many past pupils and teachers came to reminisce and find themselves in old photos.
A big thank you to all the parents who donated goodies for the night.
Celebrations continued into the wee small hours in the village pubs.
A thank you to all who attended, especially those who represented loved ones who are now no longer with us but still fondly remembered.

Fifth Class from the late 1950’s
Can you name the people in this photo for us?
We believe that some of them are Eillie Drohan, Alice Lynch, Maudie
Roche (Kennedy), Bridie Kennedy, Renea Hassett, Mary Halpin.
The photo was taken in the school yard against the wall of the old
church yard. The teacher was Mrs Daly who brought the kids outside for
class on the sunny day. It is believe the occasion for the photo was
because there was a Nun home from Africa an Aunt of Biddie Daly.
