A special visitor to our infant classroom

Junior and Senior Infants are learning about hens at the  moment. They were very excited to have this special visitor to their classroom!

Our new guests in school!

Nore Valley farm in Kilkenny have given us some fertilised eggs and we put them into the incubator yesterday 18th January. That was Day 1 and we are counting down to 21 days when we expect the chicks to hatch. We have 7 eggs and 5th class are helping to look after them by placing the insulated box over the incubator every day at home time which will help the incubator to keep the eggs at a nice warm temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius even when we are all gone home and the heating is off.

All classes are learning about the lifecycle of the chick and other related topics. We will keep you posted on any news in 3 weeks time.

We have been busy over the summer replacing all the old carpets in the classrooms and the flooring in the halla. Huge thanks to Brendan O Brien Flooring (BOBF) for laying our new marmoleum floors, and to our caretaker James who moved all of the furniture out of the six rooms, and back in again, with some help from the school staff too. We love the bright colours of our new floors which are easy to keep clean and shiny!

Our New Outdoor Classroom

We are delighted with our new outdoor space. We have seating for 30+ children plus teachers, for lessons outdoors and a lovely spot for eating lunch too. The benches are also enjoyed by children during the breaks. Thanks to Robert Jackman of Callan for our lovely patio in printed concrete with a non-slip finish.

A huge welcome

A lovely way to start the term! 6th class harvested the apples from our own apple trees. They then peeled, chopped and stewed the apples for all of us in school. All children brought in €2 each and were served a bowl of stewed apple and custard / ice-cream!. The money raised will go towards Maths Week activities in October. Thank you to Ms Fitzpatrick & our 6th class pupils!
